Bolt Electric Heating Rod
Bolt electric heating rod is an industrial electric heater specially used for hot installation and removal of high-strength bolts in large equipment such as steam turbines and pressure vessels. Its core principle is to use resistance heating to make the bolt expand due to heat and reduce preload, thereby achieving safe and efficient fastening or disassembly, avoiding damage to bolts and equipment caused by violent disassembly.
Core Structure and Working Principle
The structural design of the bolt heating rod aims to achieve fast and uniform heating while ensuring safety under harsh working conditions.
Heating core: High-resistance electric heating alloy wire (such as 0Cr27Al7Mo2) is used inside, generating heat when powered on.
Insulating and thermally conductive layer: The gap between the heating wire and the metal sheath is tightly filled with crystalline magnesium oxide powder (MgO). It is both an excellent insulator to prevent leakage and an efficient heat conductor to ensure rapid and uniform heat transfer to the inner wall of the bolt.
Protective sheath: Usually made of heat-resistant stainless steel tube (such as 1Cr18Ni9Ti), providing mechanical protection and environmental resistance.
Sealed cold end: The lead-out wire end undergoes strict cold-end sealing and moisture-proof treatment to prevent moisture intrusion from damaging insulation.
Working process: Insert the heating rod into the pre-drilled hole in the center of the bolt → Power on for heating → The bolt expands and elongates due to heat, reducing locking force → Use a special wrench to loosen or tighten the nut → Power off and cool down, the bolt contracts and restores preload.
Key Technical Parameters and Standards
The manufacturing and inspection of bolt heating rods follow strict industry standards to ensure their reliability in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.

Safety Operation and Maintenance Points
Bolt heating rods are high-risk operation tools, and operating procedures must be strictly followed.
Pre-use inspection: Before each use, measure insulation resistance with a 500V megger, and confirm it is ≥ 50 MΩ before use.
Insert first, then power on: It is strictly forbidden to power on when the heating rod is not fully inserted into the bolt hole. Ensure good fit between the heating rod and bolt hole before closing the switch.
Operate after power off: When installing, removing, moving the heating rod, or adjusting wiring, disconnect the power first.
Control heating time: Single heating time is usually controlled at 10-20 minutes to avoid overheating or shortening lifespan due to prolonged continuous heating.
Standard storage: After use, place the heating rod in a special toolbox to prevent collision and moisture.
Reliable grounding: The control cabinet and heating rod shell must have good and effective grounding.
Technical Development Trends
With the improvement of industrial intelligence and environmental protection requirements, bolt heating technology is also continuously evolving:
Intelligent temperature control: Equipped with PID temperature control module, it can precisely set heating curves and achieve precise temperature control, especially suitable for high-alloy steel bolts sensitive to temperature.
Electromagnetic induction heating: Using electromagnetic induction principle to make the bolt self-heat internally, heating is more uniform and efficient (e.g., removing M80 bolts takes only 6 minutes), with no open flame, no exhaust gas, and safer and more environmentally friendly.
Built-in cooling and monitoring: Some high-end products have built-in circulating water cooling channels and thermocouples, which can monitor the internal temperature of the heating rod in real time, optimize the heating process, and extend service life.
Explosion-proof design: For flammable and explosive environments such as petrochemical industry, special models meeting explosion-proof standards are launched to ensure operational safety.
